The thought of being content with myself often crosses my mind. January has allowed me to explore my options. I’ve spent much of my time writing essays for college applications and studying for the ACT at the beginning of February. I’m extremely excited about going back to school and I am sure that I made the right decision.
I will, however, miss the past year. I spent my entire last year with some of the most creative people in the industry. Over the past month, I had the amazing opportunity to spend a few days in the studio with Daniel Powter and Linda Perry. Both are amazing artists and I enjoyed every moment. Also, I was lucky enough to be invited to Sundance this year for the Where Music Meets Film showcase. Going to Sundance has always been a dream of mine. It was also great to spend some time with all of the bands that I work with. Melee, The Honorary Title, Eisley and Tyler Hilton were great. I work with them all the time and it was great to see them. I also went to lunch with Josh Groban, who is an incredible artist that has an outstanding sense of humor. It was surreal to walk down the street and constantly have to stop so he could take pictures with fans.
I also had dinner and wine with Andrew McMahon, his wife, and a few co-workers from Warner Bros. He told me about his concepts for the new album, which makes it obvious why AP declared it the “Most Anticipated Album of 2008″. The dude is incredible, absolutely incredible.
Then I realized: I have spent my last year doing what I love, hanging out with amazing artists and meeting with my idols. I feel like the luckiest guy alive.
Though I am extremely excited to go back to school in February, I have to say that I had an outstanding year that I’ll never forget. I have learned SO much, made many contacts and look forward to working with ALL of them soon!
Until then,
Matt
